I could honestly turn this post into an essay paper but i'll keep it short.
Having just enjoyed a great weekend out in Cambridge I started to think about the responsibilities and realities that were eager to welcome me back in NJ. Reality was started to settle back in when i took a sharp left and headed to St. Elsewhere...Destination: Matt Crofton. Matt hails from San Diego and he's on a journey that probably every U.S. citizen that's displeased with their life wants to go on. (Minus the strapped for cash part maybe)
I met Matt on a greyhound bus headed for NYC. I didnt really know what to think of him when he sat down across from me. Actually, to be honest, i thought the guy was a lumberjack from Luzerne County, Pennsylvania with a tin of chewing tobacco in his back pocket, and drank moonshine. Luckily for me, and his teeth, he was the totally opposite.
He started by asking to borrow a phone charger and from their he opened up to me and my buddy what seemed to be a remix of the plot from
Into The Wild. He started out by telling us that he had just left a reform/boot camp and he just had enough money to make it to NYC. Matt had continued to explain to us his life prior to this and it fascinated me. One week you're in sunny California and at the beginning of the next you're on a bus headed to the concrete jungle of New York City without a pot to piss in.
Most would be eager to call mom and pop and hop on a plan back home, but not Matt. He seen a window of opportunity and he didn't let it close on his fingers. He seen an opportunity to explore the county and he took it.
With two bags of clothes, an iPhone, and a newly acquired charger (you're welcome) Matt will head back home, but not without exploring the country first.
I encourage all of you that follow this blog to add
Matt on facebook and follow the vblog's and status updates. Shit, maybe, with enough supporters he could get himself a television show or something.
Ooh yeah, thanks for the heads up on Mickey Avalon!
